Being a Montana native, Ethel believes, has given her the advantage of a strong sensitivity to the natural world. Her favorite paintings are the result of a deep emotional response to something spectacular in nature.
Fogelsong`s work can vary from exact realism to playful, impressionistic, painterly work. Drawing is basic to her painting and although the finished piece may have little evidence of it, several sketches usually have been executed prior to the painting stage.
Exploration of the techniques useful in oils, acrylics, pastel and watercolor have led to a Ethel`s proficiency in each medium. A close examination of her paintings reveal the many layers of pigment applied to achieve a richness that a single application of pigment cannot achieve.
Fogelsong has studied with noted wildlife artists Robert Bateman and Veryl Goodnight. She actively exhibits in shows throughout Montana. |
